An Experimental Vignette Study on Retirees’ Willingness to Share Tacit Knowledge

RESEARCH TEAM
This study examines how different organisational arrangements influence individuals’ willingness to share knowledge after retirement. Using an experimental vignette methodology, participants are presented with structured scenarios describing how organisations may invite them to contribute their expertise post-retirement.
The scenarios vary in how such initiatives are designed and delivered, enabling us to assess how different approaches shape perceptions, preferences, and willingness to engage.
Participants are asked to evaluate these scenarios and indicate how they would respond in such situations. The study also captures perceived effort, expected level of engagement, and broader attitudes toward knowledge sharing.
More broadly, this research forms part of a wider effort to understand how organisations can preserve critical knowledge, manage workforce transitions, and design systems that ensure expertise remains accessible beyond individual careers.”This study examines how different organisational arrangements influence individuals’ willingness to share knowledge after retirement. Participation is voluntary and anonymous. No personally identifiable data is collected, and responses are analysed in aggregated form in line with standard research practices.
Open to organisations and individuals approaching retirement or recently retired. Participation is free of charge and involves a short, structured questionnaire.
Participating organisations receive access to aggregated research insights and priority access to AILAS modules designed to support knowledge retention and organisational continuity.
